Women in Rural Business Programme

Empowering women farmers

The UVU Africa Agri-Tech Women in Rural Business Programme, managed by FEADT-SA in Bushbuckridge, launched on 24 October 2024. From 58 candidates interviewed, 25 female farmers were selected for the inaugural cohort.

The programme delivered 12 structured training workshops covering soil nutrition, irrigation management, integrated pest management, financial management, production planning, harvesting practices, SA-GAP standards and marketing. Participants moved from subsistence farming to structured, market-driven enterprises, securing partnerships with buyers including Skukuza Safari Lodge and regional supermarket chains.

University of Mpumalanga

FEADT-SA and Agricolleges International have developed a formal strategic partnership proposal with the University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Faculty of Agriculture, facilitated by Professor Funso Raphael Kutu.

A UMP–FEADT-SA–Agricolleges academy delivering accredited courses to rural communities.

Combining carbon sequestration research with student internships.

Agro-Processing training

Aligned with HACCP compliance and export readiness.

A pilot targeting 50 UMP students and 100 FEADT-SA farmers is proposed, governed by a joint Steering Committee.
